The Forest Walk @IIUM Forest of ‘Ilm 2026 programme took place on May15 and 16, 2026 to celebrate the 25 th Anniversary of the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and the International Day of Forests 2026. The programme offered IIUM staff, students, and members of the public an opportunity to experience a guided forest walk within the IIUM Forest of ‘Ilm, while promoting awareness of environmental sustainability and appreciation of the forest as a living laboratory for teaching, learning, and research. The participants were  introduced to the IIUM Forest of ‘Ilm, its conservation purpose, selected forest plants with their ethnobotanical values and their relevance to natural products discovery. The programme also supported wellness and community engagement through a leisurely walk in a natural green environment.

Scientific Visits for Plant Documentation and Research

Scientific visits are regularly conducted for plant documentation and research. Interestingly, different species were flowering and fruiting at different seasons throughout the year while certain species were seen heavily bloomed for the first time since the initiation of the IIUM Forest of ‘Ilm project.

‘Gotong-royong’ for Sustainable Forest Trails

‘Gotong-royong’ is the routine activity conducted to ensure sustainable forest trails. The trails were maintained by clearing the leaf litter and any fallen tree trunks or branches that blocked them and reinstalled damaged hiking rope on the slopes. All plant labels were also checked, and the damaged or dirty labels were rectified and cleaned respectively. Regular visits were also made to check the trail. A team from Daya Bersih Sdn. Bhd. also assisted us in clearing the forest entrance and the walkway of bushes, resam and dyeing acacia trees.
