General information:
A tree up to 45 m tall, a wild and cultivated edible fruit tree species of jackfruit family[2]
Distinguish botanical characteristics:
Leaf – obovate, larger than jackfruit, exude white latex when damaged[2]
Fruit – round spiny, green yellow to orange (ripe)[2]
Heart wood – yellow-brown to orange-red to golden brown[3]
Uses:
Medicinal uses – latex as wound healer[2]
Ripe fruit – a delicacy for orang asli – orange flesh is sweet and sour, roasted seeds – sweet taste [3]
Wood (Keledang timber) – for making boat, furniture, source of sticky latex – yellow dye for textile[3]
Major/bioactive phytochemicals:
Root bark – Antiplasmodial & antimycobacterial flavonoids – artorin, cycloartobiloxanthone, 7-demethylartonol E[4]
